The enemy's plans to wedge into Vovchansk in the Kharkiv Region and gain a foothold there were thwarted.

This is stated in the message of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook about the operational situation as of 10:30 a.m. on May 16, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Since the beginning of the enemy's offensive on May 10, 2024, in the Kharkiv axis, the Defense Forces have decisively forced the russian occupiers to significantly reduce their activity. The enemy's plans to penetrate as far as possible into the depth of the urban development of Vovchansk and gain a foothold there have been foiled. Since the beginning of the current day, our units continue to carry out combat missions within of the urban development of Vovchansk in the northern part of the city, they are keeping the enemy under fire control. Actions are ongoing, the situation is under control," the message says.

At the same time, in the Kupyansk axis, the russian occupiers, with the support of armored vehicles, are trying to attack Ukrainian positions in the Krokhmalne - Berestove axis.

"Here, Ukrainian defenders destroyed a tank and an infantry fighting vehicle. The battle continues, the situation is under control. Also, our defenders improved their tactical position and pushed back the enemy in the area north of Kyslivka," the General Staff reports.

In the Siversk axis, the enemy carried out one attack in the direction of Vesele - Zvanivka, there are no changes in the position of Ukrainian troops, fighting continues in the direction of Yakovlivka - Rozdolivka.

In the Kramatorsk axis, the enemy unsuccessfully tried three times to break through the defenses of the Ukrainian troops in the directions Bakhmut - Klishchiyivka, Bakhmut - Andriyivka, fighting continues in the area of Hryhorivka.

In the Pokrovsk axis, Ukrainian defenders repelled three attacks in the directions of Vodiane - Netaylove, Pervomaiske - Netaylove, hostilities continue.

In the Kurakhove axis, the russian occupiers carried out three attacks in the direction of Vodiane - Netaylove, Slavne - Novomykhaylivka, fighting is still ongoing in the direction of Solodke - Kostiantynivka and Solodke - Vodiane, so far no positions have been lost.

In the Vremivka axis, the enemy launched three unsuccessful attacks in the direction of Staromlynivka - Urozhaine, Zavitne Bazhannia - Staromayorske, in the direction of Volodyne - Staromayorske. The defense forces continue to contain the enemy.

In the Prydniprovsk axis, the enemy does not give up its attempts to dislodge the Defense Forces from the left bank of the Dnieper, during the current day, it carried out three attacks on the positions of our troops in the area of the settlement of Krynky, Kherson Region, and no losses of positions were allowed.

Since the beginning of the day, there have been 23 combat clashes, the enemy launched two missile strikes, four air strikes using eight air defense systems and 48 strikes by kamikaze drones, and carried out 564 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced in a traditional evening video message on May 15 that the Defense Forces of Ukraine managed to partially stabilize the situation at the front, and defensive actions are ongoing in Vovchansk.

The head of the Joint Coordination Press Center of the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine, Dmytro Pletenchuk, reported that the russian occupation army has recently stepped up its assaults on the positions of the Defense Forces in the south of Ukraine, mostly in the Staromayorske area (Zaporizhzhia Region).
