The Security Service of Ukraine has registered criminal proceedings on the fact of illegal wiretapping and videotaping of journalists and employees of Bihus.Info.
This is indicated in the statement of the SSU, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The Security Service of Ukraine is investigating the circumstances of illegal wiretapping and videotaping of representatives of the Bihus.Info project.
On this fact they opened criminal proceedings under Art. 359 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal acquisition, sale or use of special technical means of obtaining information).
According to the SSU, transparent and unhindered work of independent and professional media is an important condition for the development of Ukraine as a democratic state.
"Such surveillance facts should be given a legal assessment, regardless of whether or not the materials of the hidden shooting made public the facts of a possible violation of the law, which concern the circulation of narcotic substances," the statement said.
The SSU stressed that the assessment of this can be given exclusively by law enforcement agencies according to their jurisdiction.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, unknown people leaked a video in which Bihus.Info employees allegedly took drugs at a New Year's corporate event. The editor-in-chief of the publication Denys Bihus has already promised "tough personnel changes."
