Oleksandr Oleksiiovych Pavliuk – Lieutenant General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (february-november 2024), First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine (2023-2024), Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration (March-May 2022), Commander of the Joint Forces Operation (2021-2022), Hero of Ukraine (March 2022).
Born on August 20, 1970 in Novohrad-Volynskyi (now Zviahel), Zhytomyr Region.
Education
Graduated from the Kharkiv Guards Higher Tank Command School (1991), National University of Defense of Ukraine (2004 - operational-tactical level, 2016 - operational-strategic level).
In 2019, he received a PhD in military sciences in the Lviv Regional Institute of Public Administration of the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine (2021 - Master of Public Management and Administration).
Career
He served as a tank platoon commander of the 47th Guards Tank Division (1991-1993; Hillersleben, Germany); tank company commander (1993-1997, 30th division), deputy chief of staff of a tank regiment (1997-1999), tank battalion commander (1999-2003), deputy brigade commander (2005-2006) in Novohrad-Volynskyi, Zhytomyr Region; commander of the Ukrainian peacekeeping contingent in Kosovo (2006-2007), chief of staff of the 30th separate mechanized brigade (2007-2010).
In 2010-2015, he was the commander of the 24th separate mechanized brigade (Yavoriv, Lviv Region). Since 2014, he has been involved in repelling RUSSIA'S armed aggression against Ukraine. Under his command, the brigade participated in battles for the liberation of Sloviansk, Krasnyi Lyman, Kramatorsk, Lysychansk and other cities in the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions.
In March 2017, he became the commander of the troops of the West Operational Command of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the summer of 2020, he was appointed head of training of the Ground Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In July 2021 - March 2022, he was the commander of the Joint Forces Operation. In this position, he led the defense of settlements in the east of Ukraine. In particular, retaining Sievierodonetsk, Lysychansk, Popasna and other cities in the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions.
In March 2022, he was appointed Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration to strengthen the defense of the capital and the Kyiv Region. He held this position until May 21, 2022.
In February 2023 - February 2024, he was First Deputy Minister of Defense. In September 2023, after the Verkhovna Rada appointed Rustem Umerov as Minister of Defense instead of Oleksii Reznikov, the Cabinet of Ministers dismissed six Deputy Ministers of Defense, keeping only Pavliuk.
On February 11, 2024, he was appointed Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine instead of Oleksandr Syrskyi.
On November 29, 2024, he was dismissed from his position as commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Ground Forces. On December 13, 2024, Pavlyuk was also removed from the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Headquarters.
