Next year, AFU will significantly increase use of robotic systems on battlefield - Oleksandr Pavliuk

Starting next year, the Ukrainian military will significantly increase the use of robotic systems on the battlefield in order to maximally preserve the lives and health of our defenders.

This was stated by the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pavliuk, in an interview with Ukrinform.

"The use of unmanned ground systems by units of the Ground Forces is rapidly developing and scaling up. If at the beginning of the full-scale aggression, ground systems were located only in a few military units and mainly performed logistical support tasks, today ground systems as a means of performing the entire spectrum of combat and special missions have reached the same level of importance as aviation systems. The Ground Forces seek to increase the use of unmanned systems in general in order to maximally preserve the lives and health of personnel," said Oleksandr Pavliuk.

The Commander of the Ground Forces noted that unmanned ground systems will be implemented in two directions.

"The first is the robotization of existing units to improve their efficiency and increase their capabilities for performing combat and special missions. The second is the creation of separate units of unmanned ground systems, which will perform the tasks of the so-called Centers of Competence for the Application, Technical Support and Development of Ground Systems," explained Pavliuk.

He emphasized that in 2025, it is planned to introduce special additional units into military units that will manage the work of unmanned ground systems.

Work is also underway to create a reliable communication and control system to ensure the continuous and simultaneous use of all available unmanned assets in the unit - both ground and air.

Oleksandr Pavliuk emphasized that, taking into account the growing role of unmanned systems on the battlefield, changes have been made to the basic combined arms training program that military personnel undergo from November 1.

"New elements of training were introduced into the latest, fourth, edition of the program. War is constantly changing, and we must train servicemen taking into account these changes. For example, since November 1, recruits have been actively studying counteraction to UAVs, electronic warfare, equipment, and position camouflage. Among the new exercises is shooting down a UAV using a pump-action shotgun. Recruits practice it on a simulated drone. That is, on a target attached to a real drone. Recruits are subjected to simulated drone drops so that they get used to the realities of modern warfare and, very importantly, understand how to counteract it," said Oleksandr Pavliuk.

Also, according to the commander of the Ground Forces, the number of instructors will increase in the near future. In particular, at the Non-commissioned Officer Training Center, which trains instructors for the Land Forces, twice as many servicemen will be simultaneously trained as now.
