Maliuk Vasyl, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU).
Birthplace
Born on February 28, 1983, in Korostyshev, Zhytomyr Region. Ukrainian military officer, major general, candidate of legal sciences, participant in hostilities, member of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) (since August 4, 2022), the SSU head since February 2023.
Education
In 2005, he graduated from the National Academy of the SSU, majoring in Jurisprudence.
Career
Since 2001 — military service in state security agencies. During his service in the regional offices of the SSU, he held positions ranging from operations officer to deputy head of the department/head of the department for combating corruption and organized crime.
Since 2014, he has participated in the anti-terrorist operation in Donbas and received a President’s award.
From January 2020 to March 13, 2020, he was the first deputy head of the Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime at the SSU.
From March 13, 2020, to July 26, 2021 – the first deputy head of the SSU / the head of the Department for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime of the Central Department at the SSU.
From February 16 to February 27, 2022 — Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.
From February 28 to March 3, 2022 — Deputy Head of the SSU.
On March 3, 2022, Maliuk was appointed by the President as the first deputy head of the SSU.
From July 18, 2022, to February 7, 2023 — provisional head of the SSU.
He holds a scientific degree as a candidate in legal sciences.
Since February 7, 2023, he has been the full head of the SSU.
Achievements
On July 26, 2023, Vasyl Maliuk officially confirmed the SSU’s operation to blow up the Crimean Bridge on October 8, 2022.
Property
According to the declaration for 2021, the Maliuk family owns a residential building with an area of 228 square meters with land plots in Korostyshev, Zhytomyr Region. The family also uses an apartment in Kyiv with an area of almost 123 square meters free of charge and a residential building owned by the SSU.
Maliuk owns several cars, a 2004 Lexus LX470 and a 2014 Nissan Rogue. In 2020, the family received an income of UAH 2.2 million and kept USD 90,000 in cash.
Rumors
The founder of StateWatch, Oleksandr Lemenov, said that according to his information, the President is allegedly considering the candidacy of the head of the SSU, Vasyl Maliuk, for the post of Minister of Internal Affairs instead of Ihor Klymenko.
Klymenko said that this information is nothing more than rumors and a cross for all high-ranking officials of the country.
