The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence did not support the decision to dismiss Vasyl Maliuk from the post of the head of the Security Service of Ukraine. MP from the Holos faction Yaroslav Zhelezniak said this on his Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"Here's the answer from the Rada. The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Defense considered the President's request to dismiss SSU Head Vasyl Maliuk..... And they did not support this decision," he said.
According to the MP, only 7 members of the committee supported the decision, 6 were against it, and 2 abstained.
"That is, 7 against 8", he noted.
At the same time, Zhelezniak noted that this does not prevent the issue from being put to a vote in the hall.
"It just turns out that the committee does not recommend it for consideration by the parliament. But (especially given the Office's compliance with the law), this will not prevent us from putting the resolution to a vote and then we need to get 226+. Although I think there will be no votes for this now either," the MP said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 9, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk said that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had sent a submission to the Verkhovna Rada to dismiss Vasyl Maliuk from the post of the head of the Security Service of Ukraine.
On January 5, Vasyl Maliuk announced that he had completed his work as the head of the Security Service of Ukraine. Maliuk's resignation must be approved by the Verkhovna Rada.
On January 5, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed Yevhen Khmara, the head of the SSU's Special Operations Center A, to act as the head of the SSU.
