SSU considering version about involvement of russian special services in organization of Farion's murder

The Security Service of Ukraine is developing a version of the involvement of russian special services in the murder of public figure, ex-parliamentarian Iryna Farion.

First Deputy Head of the SSU Serhii Andriushchenko announced this at a joint briefing of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, the National Police, the Prosecutor General's Office and the SSU.

"A complex of measures is being carried out, we are studying the suspect's connections both on the territory of Ukraine and abroad. And one of the versions is the involvement of the services of the aggressor country in the organization of the specified crime. We are checking the involvement of the detainee in the neo-Nazi movement, the center of which is in the aggressor country," Serhii Andriushchenko said.

In his turn, the Minister of Interior Affairs Ihor Klymenko told some details of the investigation, according to which the identity of the attacker - an 18-year-old resident of Dnipro - was identified.

"For this week, we have completely established the timing of the life of this suspect during the 10 days that he was preparing for the crime. You know that he was detained yesterday in the city of Dnipro. We did everything to bring this person to court," said Ihor Klymenko.

According to the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vyhivskyi, more than 900 witnesses were questioned as part of the investigation, 22 forensic examinations were conducted, and more than 9,000 images from 170 video surveillance cameras were analyzed.

According to the investigation materials, the perpetrator came to Lviv by train on July 9, and for the purpose of disguise he rented and changed 3 different apartments. He prepared for the crime by watching the house where Iryna Farion lived for a long time.

According to Ihor Klymenko, a bullet casing was found at the scene of the murder, which was probably fired from a modified sporting pistol.

Search queries were also found in the history of the browser on the suspect's mobile device, which may indicate his interest in the activities of various pro-russian politicians in different regions of the country.

During the briefing, Deputy Prosecutor General Anton Voitenko said that the detainee had already been notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional murder).

Today, a meeting will be held in one of Lviv's courts regarding the selection of a preventive measure. The prosecution proposes to apply detention without bail.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 19, around 7:30 p.m., an unknown man shot Farion with a firearm in Lviv, and Farion died in the hospital that evening.
