Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko told the details of the detention of the suspect in the murder of the former member of the Verkhovna Rada, linguist Iryna Farion, in Dnipro.
Klymenko announced this in the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"There is enough evidence to state that it was the detainee who shot the linguist. 139 hours of continuous work by a huge team of operatives, investigators, criminal analysts, experts, other police services, and employees of the Security Service of Ukraine. They checked every corner along the shooter's escape route and searched about 100 hectares of forest. Eventually, the suspect was tracked down. The person has been identified. Having his photo, it was only a matter of time: smart surveillance cameras caught him everywhere," he said.
Klymenko noted that the identification of the perpetrator and his detention is a painstaking process that required the highest professionalism, endurance and discipline in order not to make a single mistake.
About the person involved, Klymenko said: 18 years old, a resident of Dnipro, while preparing for the crime, he rented at least three apartments in Lviv.
"Now, the detainee is in the hands of the police. It is important to find out all the details. At the moment, the investigation is inclined to the opinion that the shooter is only the executor," Klymenko said.
He promised to provide more information later.
As Ukrainian News Agency reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced earlier that the suspect in Farion's murder was detained in Dnipro.
On July 19, around 7:30 p.m., an unknown man shot Farion with a firearm in Lviv, Farion died in the hospital that evening.
