The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SACPO) appealed to the High Council of Justice (HCJ) with a request for permission to detain the former head of the Supreme Court, Vsevolod Kniazev, who, together with his lawyer, is suspected of receiving USD 2.7 million in illegal benefits.
This was announced in the SACPO, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
On May 17, the head of the SACPO turned to the High Council of Justice with a corresponding submission.
The HCJ meeting is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on May 18.
The results of the consideration of the submission will be notified additionally.
The head of the SACPO personally reported the suspicion to Kniazev and the lawyer, who were exposed for receiving USD 2.7 million in illegal benefits.
Actions qualified under Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the SACPO informed Kniazev of suspicion of receiving a multimillion bribe.
Kniazev, whose authority as head of the court was terminated by the Plenum of the Supreme Court, expressing no confidence in him, remained as a judge of the Supreme Court.
The Plenum of the Supreme Court by 140 votes expressed no confidence in the head of the Supreme Court, Vsevolod Kniazev, who was exposed by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NACB) for receiving USD 2.7 million in bribes. Such a decision was made by the Plenum at an urgent meeting.
According to our sources in the law enforcement agencies, Vsevolod Kniazev is suspected of having received almost USD 3 million in bribes from people close to the businessman and former Member of Parliament Kostiantyn Zhevaho, who is on international wanted list, for a decision in his favor.
