Currently, 75% of Ukrainian companies are facing a labor shortage. Economy Minister Oleksii Sobolev announced this on Facebook, according to the Ukrainian News agency.
"Currently, 75% of Ukrainian companies are facing a labor shortage. At the same time, millions of people who are able and willing to work — internally displaced persons, people with disabilities, veterans, adults and seniors, women, and young people — cannot find work or are working in the informal sector," he noted.
Sobolev added that the government’s task is to create a system in which legal employment is accessible, understandable, and beneficial for everyone. According to him, the new Labor Code is one of the key instruments of such a transformation, and he called on the Verkhovna Rada to adopt the document in the first reading as soon as possible.
According to Sobolev, the new Labor Code provides for:
for employees — greater protection and flexibility, the right to remote and offline work, and paternity leave for men — which, according to the Ministry of Economy’s estimates, will result in at least 302,000 legalized workers;
for businesses – less bureaucracy and uncertainty, electronic document management, modern contract forms, and faster mechanisms for resolving labor disputes – measures expected to save businesses over UAH 5 billion annually.
"For the state, this is another step toward de-shadowing the labor market. We expect an annual effect of UAH 9–19 billion in additional tax revenues," the minister noted.
He also emphasized that the new Labor Code is part of Ukraine’s European integration course and implements 30 EU directives in the field of labor.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in January, the Cabinet of Ministers proposed that the Verkhovna Rada adopt a draft of the new Labor Code of Ukraine, which, among other things, regulates video surveillance in the workplace.
