In a telephone conversation on July 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump discussed replacing Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States.
It was reported by Bloomberg, citing a source familiar with the matter.
Thus, the current Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, may be replaced by a person from the list of potential candidates for the position, which was announced by the publication's source.
In particular, it includes:
- Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal,
- Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna,
- Defense Minister Rustem Umerov,
- Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.
According to Bloomberg's interlocutor, Zelenskyy instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to discuss with the American side the appointment of the next ambassador of Ukraine.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, it was officially reported following a telephone conversation on July 4 that Zelenskyy discussed Ukraine's air defense, defense industry capabilities, and opportunities for joint production with Trump. In addition, they discussed mutual procurement and investments, exchanged views on the diplomatic situation, and joint work with America and other partners.
Then Zelenskyy also congratulated Trump and the entire American people on the Independence Day of the US.
It should be noted that the day before, Trump had a telephone conversation with russian leader vladimir putin, which, according to him, did not lead to any progress in efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
In addition, on July 2, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly reported in a comment to NBC News that the United States had decided to stop the supply of some weapons to Ukraine.
On the same day, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine stated that there had been no official notification from the United States about stopping or revising the schedules for the supply of defense assistance to Ukraine.
Also, on July 2, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry invited a representative of the US Embassy to discuss support for Ukraine in countering russian aggression.
Trump himself, commenting on the suspension of arms supplies to Ukraine, stated that the United States had not completely stopped its transfer.
