Foreign Affairs Ministry summons US Embassy representative to discuss Ukraine's support in countering russian aggression

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned a representative of the US Embassy to discuss Ukraine's support in countering russian aggression. This is indicated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"On Wednesday, July 2, at the request of Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, the U.S. Chargé d'Affaires ad interim in Ukraine, John Ginkel, was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. The main topic of the conversation with the American diplomat was U.S. military assistance and defense cooperation between the two countries amid Russia's escalation of aggression and terror against Ukraine," the statement says.

Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa expressed gratitude to the US for the support provided since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion and emphasized the critical importance of continuing the supplies of previously allocated defense packages, with a special emphasis on strengthening Ukraine's air defense.

The Ukrainian side emphasized that any delay or procrastination in supporting Ukraine's defense capabilities will only encourage the aggressor to continue the war and terror, rather than seek peace.

The Deputy Minister recalled that russia not only rejects the full and unconditional ceasefire that Ukraine agreed to on March 11, but also continues to intensify air terror against Ukrainian cities and communities, killing civilians, and attacks on the battlefield.

"Ukraine supports peace efforts and the U.S. position on the immediate need to stop the killings and end the war, and highlights the need of forcing Russia to peace. In these circumstances, strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and increasing coordinated transatlantic pressure on the aggressor are critically important," the statement said.

It is noted that the parties discussed the consultations on defense supplies, which are currently ongoing at all levels, and further contacts between Ukraine and the United States, which will contribute to finding mutually beneficial solutions to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities, increase pressure on russia to advance peace efforts.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the American media outlet Politico informed that the United States had temporarily suspended the transfer of some anti-aircraft missiles and precision-guided munitions to Ukraine due to concerns about its own military reserves.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly, in a comment to NBC News, said that the decision to suspend the supply of some weapons to Ukraine was made after reviewing the volume of military support that the United States provides to other countries, in order to "prioritize national interests."
