Russia in unusual way confirms loss of A-50 radar reconnaissance aircraft, downed year ago

The aggressor country of russia confirmed that in February 2024, the Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down the A-50 "Shmel" long-range radar detection and control aircraft, which after receiving damage crashed in the territory of the Krasnodar Krai of the russian federation.

This is evidenced by a report by the Investigative Committee of the russian federation, published on February 5.

The russians stated that they had sentenced in absentia the commander of the 138th anti-aircraft missile brigade of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykola Nikolai Dziaman.

The occupiers accused him of launching a missile strike on the Trudovaya Armeniya settlement in the Krasnodar Krai on February 23, 2024, allegedly on his order.

The russians claim that 10 people were killed as a result of the alleged missile strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

For committing a "terrorist act," the russians sentenced Dziaman in absentia to life imprisonment.

The occupiers did not specify why the Ukrainian officer allegedly gave the order to launch a missile strike on the settlement, where 124 people lived as of 2010.

According to satellite images from the Google Maps service, there are no airfields, military units, oil depots, or any other facilities in the area of this settlement that could be of interest to the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

At the time of the "terrorist act" - February 23, 2024 - the nearest Ukrainian positions were approximately 207 kilometers from the Trudovaya Armeniya settlement.

This also casts doubt on the occupants' statement, since it is unclear how and with what weapons the anti-aircraft unit, whose tasks include combating air targets, could have struck the settlement.

Recall, on the evening of February 23, 2024, both Ukrainian and russian sources reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down an A-50 long-range radar detection and control aircraft. According to reports, it fell on the Trudovaya Armeniya settlement in the Krasnodar Krai of the russian federation.

A few hours later, the former commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykola Oleshchuk confirmed that the Ukrainian military had shot down an A-50 aircraft of the occupants.

It is worth noting that this was the second A-50 aircraft destroyed by fire from the Ukrainian military. The first aircraft was destroyed on January 15, 2024 over the Sea of Azov.

Then the Ukrainian military managed to hit a flying command post based on an Il-22 aircraft. It suffered damage, but was able to land at the airport in the russian city of Anapa.
