Due to the large-scale accident of several russian tankers in the Kerch Strait, the damage caused to the environment may reach USD 14 billion.

This was reported by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svitlana Hrynchuk during a telethon.

"If we use our methods to calculate the damage, if the volume of these products exceeds 4,000 tons, then this is already a loss of USD 14 billion for the Black Sea area," Hrynchuk said.

She noted that this is a preliminary estimate, and the total amount will be known after the data on the accident is clarified.

"We are waiting for the weather conditions to improve in order to obtain high-quality satellite images necessary for analyzing the situation and more detailed modeling," the minister said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, due to the accident of two russian tankers with oil products, fuel oil pollution may reach the shores of Ukraine.

Due to the tanker accident in the Kerch Strait, oil is spilling, the coast is polluted.

Later, videos appeared on social networks, in which you can see that both tankers were literally chopped up by waves.

Greenpeace stated that this incident could lead to the spill of 4,000 tons of fuel oil, as well as other oil products. This threatens the region with an environmental disaster, the consequences of which will be observed for more than one year.
