A tanker accident in the Black Sea has caused an oil spill, polluting the waters and coast. Oil is spilling into the Kerch Strait, where a russian tanker broke up during a storm.
This is reported by Reuters.
As of 5:00 p.m. on December 15, the Emergencies Ministry reported that the Volgoneft-239 tanker ran aground 80 meters from the coast near the port of Taman. There are 14 crew members on board and they need to be evacuated. 13 sailors were evacuated from the Volgoneft-212 tanker, one of whom was killed.
Rosmorrechflot reported that the Kerch ferry was suspended due to weather conditions.
In the Krasnodar Krai of the russian federation, after the accident of two tankers in the Kerch Strait, fuel oil stains were discovered, the head of the region, Veniamin Kondratyev, reported.
"Oil products were carried several dozen kilometers from the village of Veselivka in the Temryuk district and to the village of Blagoveshchenskaya in Anapa," he reported.
The Agentstvo publication notes that the oil stain after the tanker accident has already contaminated up to 35 km of the coast in the Anapa area.
Recall that earlier on December 15, it became known that an accident occurred in the Kerch Strait, which connects the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea, with two russian tankers - Volgoneft-139 and Volgoneft-212.
Later, videos appeared on social networks, in which you can see that both tankers were literally chopped up by waves.
Greenpeace said the incident could spill 4,000 tons of fuel oil and other petroleum products, threatening the region with an environmental disaster that could last for years.
