On December 3, 2024, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appointed Chernyshov as Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine — Minister of National Unity of Ukraine.
He lost his positions as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Unity of Ukraine on July 17, 2025, in connection with the resignation of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
NABU suspicion
In June 2025, NABU detectives informed Oleksiy Chernyshov that he was suspected of abuse of office and obtaining unlawful benefits on an especially large scale. The day before, he had returned to Ukraine amid rumors that he was hiding from the investigation.
