The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine has served a notice of suspicion to former Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Chernyshov in the case of illicit enrichment and participation in a corruption scheme in the energy sector.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has reported this.
The NABU does not name the suspect, but judging by the description, it is Oleksii Chernyshov.
According to the investigation, the former official visited the so-called "laundry" - a place of legalization of proceeds of crime, which was controlled by the head of the organization exposed by NABU and SAPO. During the investigation, the NABU recorded the transfer of USD 1.2 million and almost EUR 100,000 in cash to Chernyshov - right in the office or medical clinic of one of the participants in the scheme. On the tapes released by the NABU, the defendants called the former Vice Prime Minister "Che Guevara."
The suspicion was announced under Article 368-5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for up to 10 years in prison. The NABU notes that Chernyshov is already involved in another case of abuse of office and obtaining undue advantage.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 10, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office released part of the audio recordings as part of an investigation into a large-scale corruption scheme in the energy sector, codenamed Midas.
According to the NABU and SAPO, the main activity of the suspects was the systematic receipt of illegal benefits from Energoatom's contractors in the amount of 10% to 15% of the value of contracts.
As a reminder, searches were conducted at the businessman and co-owner of the Kvartal 95 studio, Tymur Mindich, an ally of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, former Minister of Energy and Minister of Justice Herman Halushchenko, and at Energoatom.
Meanwhile, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak (Holos) said thathe had submitted a petition to the Verkhovna Rada to dismiss the current Minister of Justice Herman Halushchenko, as well as a resolution to dismiss Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine confirmed, that investigative actions were taken with the participation of the head of the department, Herman Halushchenko, within the framework of criminal proceedings, but refused to discuss the details.
