On May 25, Sergey Lavrov, the foreign minister of the aggressor state of russia, informed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio of moscow’s decision to launch strikes on Kyiv.

This is indicated in a statement cited by Reuters.

The statement says that the armed forces of the occupier state “are launching systematic strikes on facilities in Kyiv used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as on centers where relevant decisions are made.”

As a reminder, two people were killed and 94 injured as a result of massive russian shelling on the night of May 24. During the attack, the Ancient Kyiv State Historical and Architectural Reserve came under fire from russian troops, and the main office of Ukrposhta on Maidan Nezalezhnosti Square was damaged. Additionally, approximately 40% of the museum artifacts from the exhibition of the Chornobyl National Museum were lost, and a number of institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, as well as the offices of Ukrainian and foreign media outlets, were damaged.

Lavrov also told Rubio by phone that this step was taken in response to attacks by Ukraine. At the same time, it is claimed that these were allegedly Ukrainian strikes on civilian objects and the civilian population.

It should be noted that the General Staff reported that after the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck a number of russian targets on the night of May 22, including in the area of the city of Starobilsk in the occupied Luhansk Region, russian propaganda media spread information about alleged strikes on civilian targets.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the day before, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the aggressor state, russia, announced the start of systematic strikes on defense enterprises, so-called “decision-making centers,” and command posts in Kyiv, and consequently urged foreigners to leave the capital.

Meanwhile, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová stated that EU diplomats would not leave Kyiv following russia’s threats of “systematic strikes” and the aggressor state’s call for foreigners to leave the Ukrainian capital.
