Rada dismisses head of SSU Maliuk

The Verkhovna Rada has dismissed Vasyl Maliuk from the post of the head of the Security Service of Ukraine. The corresponding decision was voted for by 235 MPs out of the minimum required 226, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Maliuk was absent from the hall during the vote.

Maliuk has been the head of the SSU since February 2023. Prior to that, he had been acting head of the SSU since July 2022.

The head of the Servant of the People faction in the Verkhovna Rada, David Arakhamia, said that the President is not expected to nominate the head of the SSU in the near future, Zelenskyy wants Yevhen Khmara, the head of the Special Operations Center "A", the provisional head of the SSU, appointed by him, to work as the acting head of the SSU for some time.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 9, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk said that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had sent a submission to the Verkhovna Rada to dismiss Vasyl Maliuk from the post of the head of the Security Service of Ukraine.

On January 5, Vasyl Maliuk announced the completion of his work as the head of the Security Service of Ukraine.

On January 5, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed Yevhen Khmara, the head of the SSU Special Operations Center "A", to temporarily act as the head of the SSU.
