Italy proposes to the United Nations to establish a truce for the duration of the Winter Olympics. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said this on the sidelines of the twelfth Italy-Latin America and the Caribbean conference in Rome, Asa news agency reported on Tuesday, October 7.
Tajani emphasized that Italy supports the US plan and mentioned Pope Leo who said that one should never give up hope for peace.
"Rome and Italy are increasingly at the crossroads of peace, development and growth. In this sense, in view of the Olympics in Milan and Cortina, we are presenting to the United Nations a proposal for an Olympic truce for all wars, including Ukraine and the Middle East," the Italian Foreign Minister emphasized.
We would like to remind you that the 2026 Winter Olympics will take place from February 6 to 22, with about 2,900 athletes from more than 90 National Olympic Committees participating.
