US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff held talks with russian dictator vladimir putin in the kremlin.
Reuters informed about this on Wednesday, August 6, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
Witkoff flew to moscow two days before the expiration of Trump's ultimatum to end the war against Ukraine.
It is noted that the talks lasted about three hours.
Putin's envoy Kirill Dmitriev, who earlier greeted Witkoff on his arrival and walked with him in a park near the kremlin, wrote on social networks: "Dialogue will prevail."
"Witkoff met Putin for around three hours on a last-minute mission to seek a breakthrough in the 3-1/2-year war that began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine," the article says.
After the talks ended, neither side made any official statements.
Reuters notes that it is currently unclear what russia could offer the United States to avoid sanctions.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Bloomberg earlier informed that the kremlin is considering making a concession to US President Donald Trump to stop airstrikes in Ukraine, but not to stop hostilities.
In this way, the aggressor country russia wants to avoid secondary US sanctions.
On August 4, US President Donald Trump said that Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, would likely visit russia on August 6 or 7 at moscow's request.
As a reminder, on July 28, Trump announced that he was setting a new deadline of 10-12 days, during which the aggressor state russia must make progress in concluding a peace agreement with Ukraine.
