US President Donald Trump has asked Republicans in Congress to delay passage of a bill to impose tough sanctions on the aggressor country of russia.
Time reported this, citing its own sources.
The publication's unnamed sources told the publication that the Trump administration has signaled Republican senators to halt the passage of the sanctions initiative.
One of the publication's sources said Trump wants to act on his own. That's why the White House has contacted Republicans.
According to Senator John Thune, who heads the Republican majority in the Senate, he and other members of Congress are ready to support the bill on new sanctions.
"If he believes that this will have the desired effect and strengthen his position in negotiations, we will do it," Thune said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on Monday, July 14, Donald Trump threatened to impose economic sanctions against russia if russian dictator vladimir putin does not sit down at the negotiating table within 50 days.
Last Thursday, July 10, Trump said that he was ready to approve tough sanctions against russia, but only if he received the right to independently lift or postpone the restrictions without the intervention of Congress.
This is a bill developed by Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal. It proposes to introduce various sanctions and restrictions, including 500% tariffs against countries that help russia in its war against Ukraine.
