IAEA sees 'no signs' russia preparing to restart Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant - Reuters

There are no signs that the aggressor country russia is preparing to restart the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, a representative of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said, Reuters reported on Thursday, May 29.

The IAEA has called for a ceasefire so that water supplies and external power supplies needed to cool the nuclear fuel can be established.

"Our teams continue to confirm there is no indication at the moment that there will be any active preparations for a restart of the plant now," the IAEA representative said on condition of anonymity.

Reuters writes that on May 28, a Ukrainian official said that his country had protested to the IAEA over reports that russia was building power lines to connect the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to its own grid.

On May 27, russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that moscow is not considering the option of joint management of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
