Lavrov rejects US proposal for control of Zaporizhzhia NPP

Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said that the Zaporizhzhia NPP, occupied by russia, is supposedly "in safe hands" and has rejected the idea of changing the management of the plant.

Lavrov said this in an interview with CBS News, the text of which was published on the website of the russian Foreign Ministry.

"No, we have not received such a proposal, and if we do, we will explain that the management of the Zaporizhzhia NPP is under the jurisdiction of the russian state corporation Rosatom, under the supervision of IAEA personnel, who are constantly present at the site and monitor it.

That, if we ignore Ukraine's constant attempts to attack the plant and create a nuclear disaster in Europe and Ukraine, the safety requirements are fully met. The NPP is in safe hands," he said.

When asked whether this meant a rejection of the US proposal, Lavrov replied: "I don't think any changes are possible."

In addition, Lavrov justified the strikes on Kyiv, stating that the attacks on April 24 were allegedly directed at military facilities.

"If this was a target (in Kyiv - ed.) used by the Ukrainian military, then the Ministry of Defense and commanders on the ground have the right to attack such targets... We will continue to strike at facilities used by the Ukrainian military, mercenaries from foreign countries and instructors whom the Europeans officially sent to help strike at russian civilian facilities," Lavrov said.

The russian foreign minister also stated that the issue of Crimea's belonging was "resolved" because "russia is not negotiating the integrity of its territory," and that allegedly "Trump understands this."

As we will recall, on April 24, Bloomberg reported that the United States had proposed returning the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to Ukrainian control, with the subsequent transfer of management of the plant to the American side to ensure electricity supply to both Ukrainian-controlled and russian-occupied territories.

On April 25, Reuters reported on an American proposal to end the war, which would see Ukraine regain control of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the plant's administration transferred to the United States.

On April 26, Reuters reported on Ukrainian-European proposals submitted to the American side in London, including the restoration of Ukrainian control over the Zaporizhzhia NPP with US participation, as well as over the Kakhovka Dam.
