Chinese prisoners were taken to Kyiv for priority investigative measures. The Security Service of Ukraine announced this on its Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"They were taken to Kyiv for priority investigative measures. They are being held in proper conditions that meet the requirements of international law," the report says.

The SSU said that investigators from the Security Service conducted the first interrogations of Chinese prisoners of war who were captured by the Defense Forces in the Donetsk Region. They are currently giving evidence about how they ended up in the war in Ukraine and what tasks they performed as part of the russian armed forces on the territory of Ukraine.

These are two citizens of the PRC: one was captured by fighters of the 2nd battalion of the 157th separate brigade near the settlement of Tarasivka, the other by servicemen of the 1st battalion of the 81st combined arms brigade near Bilohorivka.

The SSU notes that the captured foreigners do not have combat wounds, but are receiving the necessary medical care, as provided for by the Geneva Convention.

Communication with the prisoners is carried out through interpreters.

According to both foreigners, they were captured by the Ukrainian military on their very first combat mission.
One of the suspects, an unemployed man born in 1991, was recruited by a russian representative directly in China, arrived in moscow in February 2025 and signed a contract.
Another, born in 1998, arrived in the russian federation in December 2024, allegedly for tourist purposes. According to him, then, while in russia, he applied for signing a contract, responding to an advertisement on the Internet about recruitment and payment of RUB 2 million.
Currently, the SSU is checking the statements of the prisoners and conducting the necessary investigative measures to establish all the circumstances of the participation of Chinese citizens in the russian federation's war against Ukraine. The investigation is being conducted under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General's Office under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (war crimes).
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on April 8, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed that Ukrainian military personnel had captured two Chinese citizens who had fought as part of the russian army in the Donetsk Region.
On April 9, Zelenskyy published a video in which SSU officers interrogate Chinese citizens who were captured by servicemen of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine has information about at least 155 Chinese citizens who are fighting as part of the aggressor country, russia. The real number of Chinese in the ranks of the russian army may be higher.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine summoned the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of China. He was condemned for the fact that Chinese citizens participated in the war against Ukraine.
On April 9, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated that Beijing did not send its military personnel to participate in the war.
