Unrecognized Transnistria announced its readiness to purchase natural gas through the Moldovan company Moldovagaz. Tiraspol allegedly notified Chisinau of this a few days ago, but there was allegedly no response.
The head of the unrecognized republic, Vadim Krasnoselsky, stated this on January 20.
According to him, on January 18, Tiraspoltransgaz notified Moldovagaz of its readiness to begin purchasing gas.
Krasnoselsky added that Tiraspol allegedly asked Chisinau to determine the mechanism for concluding a relevant agreement as soon as possible.
"Today is January 20. There is no response," Krasnoselsky said.
Recall that on January 1, 2025, the gas transportation system of Ukraine stopped the transit of gas from russia, including in the direction of Transnistria. The transit of russian gas was suspended due to the expiration of the agreement concluded between Naftogaz of Ukraine and russia's Gazprom.
Against this backdrop, an energy crisis began in Transnistria. As of January 2, 75,000 homes in the unrecognized republic were left without gas.
And soon, widespread power outages were introduced in Transnistria, which caused water supply disruptions in several areas of the unrecognized republic.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 20, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that Chisinau was ready to provide assistance to Transnistria, but only after russian troops leave the territory of the unrecognized republic.
Earlier, we wrote that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered to supply Moldova with coal to resolve the crisis in Transnistria. A few days later, he said that Tiraspol had not demonstrated its readiness to use Kyiv's help.
