75,000 homes in Transnistria left without gas. Coal for heat and electricity left for 50 days

The separatist administration in Transnistria reported that almost 75,000 homes/apartments in the Transnistrian region have been disconnected from the gas network, and 115,000 are already receiving a limited amount of gas. Coal reserves to cover their own needs for electricity and heat will be enough for 50 days.

This was reported by Radio Svoboda and the Moldovan portal Zona de Securitate.

The region with a population of about 450,000 people stopped receiving russian natural gas on January 1 due to the suspension of transit through Ukraine. The Moldovan government said that Gazprom rejected its offer to supply gas to the separatist Transnistrian region via a bypass route. At the same time, the separatist administration in Tiraspol, which also rejected Chisinau's offer to supply gas purchased on the European market, announced the stocks made.

"In most settlements of the Transnistrian region, central heating and hot water supply have been stopped. Only some medical and state institutions are still connected to heat. According to available information, water was pumped out of the heating systems of residential buildings in the cities of the region in two days. Currently, there is electricity, and cold water will be supplied as long as there is electricity," the report says.

Residents of the region will be able to use natural gas for cooking until it runs out in the pipes. The shortage of blue fuel is also felt in settlements controlled by the constitutional authorities of Moldova, but connected to the gas supply system of the region. Among them: Varnitsa, Kochier', Korzhova, Koshnitsa, Dorotska, Molovata Noua, Pyrita, Pohrebia and Vasylivka, Kopanca, Khadzhimus and Firladen. The most vulnerable villages remain Varnitsa and Kopanca, which, in addition to dependence on gas, are also connected to the same source of electricity - exclusively from the region.

The region has coal reserves to cover its own electricity needs and heat for 50 days, the publication notes. The natural gas reserve in the pipelines will be used to supply hospitals. Street lighting will be reduced: instead of 8 hours, it will be only 4.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 1, the separatist Moldovan region of Transnistria stopped heating and hot water supply to households after stopping the transit of natural gas through Ukraine.

On January 1, the Ukrainian GTS officially stopped the transit of Russian gas.

Recall that at the end of 2024, a representative of the European Commission stated that the European Union was ready to stop the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine.
