On January 1, 2025, at 7 a.m. Kyiv time, the Agreement on Interaction between LLC GTS Operator of Ukraine and PJSC Gazprom for Physical Connection Points of the russian federation-Ukraine between the gas transportation systems of Ukraine and the russian federation dated December 30, 2019, expired.
This is stated in the message of the GTS Operator of Ukraine, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The message states that accordingly, the transportation of natural gas from the Sudzha entry point on the eastern border of Ukraine to the exit points on the western and southern borders has been stopped.
The GTS Operator of Ukraine has informed international partners about this in the established manner.
Thus, since January 1, the gas transportation system of Ukraine has been operating in the mode of no transit of russian gas.
"The GTS Operator of Ukraine has prepared the infrastructure in advance to operate in the mode of zero transit and reliable gas supply to Ukrainian consumers. The company's staff is ready to work in new conditions,” emphasized the Director General of the Ukrainian Gas Transmission System Operator Dmytro Lyppa.
It is noted that in preparation for work in new conditions, the Ukrainian Gas Transmission System Operator agreed to increase guaranteed capacities to ensure the possibility of supplying gas both to Ukraine and through Ukraine to European consumers.
The Ukrainian Gas Transmission System Operator reported that in 2024, Ukraine for the first time received guaranteed capacities, increased in the southern direction – this is the “Vertical Corridor”, and also made guaranteed capacities from Poland.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, at the end of 2024, a representative of the European Commission stated that the European Union is ready to stop the transit of russian gas through Ukraine.
