Fuel oil spilled due to the accident of russian tankers in the Kerch Strait has reached the shores of the Sea of Azov, satellite images show an oil slick near the temporarily occupied Berdiansk, Zaporizhzhia Region.
The Mariupol City Council has reported this.
It is noted that a 300 square kilometer oil slick is recorded in the Sea of Azov. Before that, the occupiers reported contaminated areas on the Berdiansk coast with a length of over 14 km.
"Given the currents and wind direction in the region, it is likely that the fuel oil will be carried further to Mariupol," - the city council suggests.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on December 15, 2024, the Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 tankers suffered an accident in the Kerch Strait due to a storm.
According to Greenpeace Ukraine, at least 4,300 tons of fuel oil spilled into the waters of the Black and Azov Seas as a result of the incident.
Later, it became known that the tanker disaster and the spill of oil products occurred at the place where dolphins winter.
On December 18, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources stated that the leak of oil products from russian tankers caused USD 14 billion in damage to the Black Sea ecosystem.
