The second group of volunteers of the Ukrainian Legion has signed contracts and begun training in Poland.
This was announced by the Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Today, at the Consulate General of Ukraine in Lublin, contracts were signed by the second group of Ukrainian citizens, living abroad, for military service in the ranks of the Ukrainian Legion," the message says.
The representative of the command of the unit, Lieutenant Colonel Petro Horkusha, reported that this time a larger number of recruits signed contracts than in November.
"This indicates the growth of trust of our citizens in this initiative. "We are joined by motivated people who are aware of their choice," he noted.
Horkusha reported that for the first time, women who chose specialties related to medicine and communications joined the Ukrainian Legion.
It is noted that most of the new volunteers live in Poland, but there are also citizens of Ukraine from Denmark, the Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania and other European countries.
After signing the contracts, a group of volunteers went to one of the training centers of the Polish armed forces to undergo basic military training. The training will be conducted under the guidance of Polish instructors using modern weapons from NATO countries.
According to Horkusha, the recruiting center of the Ukrainian Legion has already received about 1,300 applications for service.
The first group of servicemen of the Ukrainian Legion has already completed one of the stages of training and was sent to a temporary deployment point in Ukraine, then they will continue training in military specialties at training centers NATO countries or in training centers in Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in November, the Ministry of Defense reported that the first volunteers of the Ukrainian Legion in Poland signed contracts and began basic military training, at that time it was reported that the recruiting center of the Ukrainian Legion received almost 700 applications from Ukrainian citizens.
In early October, the Ukrainian Legion initiative, which aims to attract Ukrainians abroad to the Defense Forces of Ukraine, officially began recruiting volunteers in Poland.
The security agreement signed by Ukraine with Poland in July 2024 provides for the training of the Ukrainian Legion on the territory of Poland from Ukrainians who are currently abroad.
