The first volunteers of the Ukrainian Legion in Poland signed contracts and began basic military training.
This was announced by the Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Today, the General Consulate of Ukraine in Lublin held a contract signing ceremony for the first recruitment of Ukrainian citizens living abroad for military service in the ranks of the Ukrainian Legion," the message reads.
After signing the contracts, a group of volunteers went to the military training ground of the Armed Forces of Poland to undergo basic military training.
According to the representative of the Ukrainian Legion command, Lt. Col. Petro Horkusha, the basic training course will last 35 days, after which servicemen will be able to continue training in selected military accounting specialties at NATO bases in Europe.
Horkusha said that to date, the recruiting center of the Ukrainian Legion has received almost 700 applications from citizens of Ukraine living in Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland and other countries.
After passing the military medical commission, checks and signing contracts, they will also join the ranks of the legion.
The basic training of recruits will be conducted under the leadership of Polish instructors using modern weapons of NATO countries, commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who have combat experience, will also take part in the training.
It is noted that the recruiting center of the Ukrainian Legion in Lublin continues to accept applications from citizens of Ukraine for service in the military unit, applications can be submitted through the official website of the Ukrainian Legion or through Ukrainian consulates and embassies in Europe.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, at the beginning of October, the Ukrainian Legion initiative, which aims to attract Ukrainians abroad to the Defense Forces of Ukraine, officially began recruiting volunteers in Poland.
The security agreement signed by Ukraine with Poland in July provides for the training of the Ukrainian Legion of Ukrainians, who are currently abroad on the territory of Poland.
