Embraer 190 plane denied landing at nearby russian airports after missile hit - media

The crew of the Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer 190 passenger plane, which crashed in the Kazakh city of Aktau on December 25, was denied an emergency landing at several russian airports after the aircraft was hit by an anti-aircraft missile.

The Azerbaijani English-language channel AnewZ reported this, citing sources in the Azerbaijani government.

The channel's interlocutors said that the airport in Grozny (Republic of Chechnya) did not give permission for the crew of the damaged plane to land.

The pilots received a similar ban from controllers at the airports of Makhachkala (Republic of Dagestan) and Mineralnye Vody (Stavropol Krai).

"The disoriented flight crew was advised to land in the Kazakh city of Aktau. Presumably, this recommendation was given with one goal: for the plane to fall into the Caspian Sea, all witnesses died, and the plane sank," the channel wrote.

He also wrote that the alternative versions of the plane crash (birds and the explosion of an oxygen cylinder) spread by the russian media are "a purposeful insinuation designed to mislead public opinion."

The channel writes that for the Azerbaijani side, the situation is absolutely obvious. At the same time, Baku does not claim that the russian military shot down the plane on purpose.

However, despite this, the Azerbaijani authorities expect russia to admit its involvement in the plane crash, conduct a full investigation, and bring all those responsible to justice.

As we recall, a few hours ago, Euronews reported, citing sources in the Azerbaijani government, that preliminary results of the investigation showed that the Embraer 190 plane was shot down by a missile from a russian air defense system.

In the first hours after the crash, information was actively spread in the media and social networks, mainly in russian, that the cause of the plane crash was birds or an oxygen cylinder explosion.

However, holes were later discovered on the plane's skin that resembled those left after an anti-aircraft missile explosion. In addition, a number of passengers received shrapnel wounds.

Recall, the online publication Agency. Novosti wrote that russia is trying to hide the fact of the attack by Ukrainian drones on Chechnya and North Ossetia on the morning of December 25, as it may indicate the involvement of the russian federation in the plane crash.
