Characteristic damage was found on the skin of the Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane that crashed in Kazakhstan. It indicates that the plane was shot down by russian air defense systems.
This was reported by Reuters, Meduza and russian Telegram channels on Wednesday, December 25.
The media reports that the released videos show holes that look like weapons being used.
The most likely cause of the plane crash is said to be a hit by elements of a large anti-aircraft missile, since similar holes in the skin can be seen in many photos and videos of the wreckage of military and civilian planes shot down by anti-aircraft missile systems.
"Officials did not immediately explain why it crossed the sea, but the crash occurred shortly after drone strikes in southern russia. Drone activity in the past has led to the closure of airports in the area, and the nearest russian airport in the plane's flight path was closed on Wednesday morning," Reuters writes.
The media also note that the investigation into the causes of the plane crash will be carried out not by russian, but by Kazakh, Brazilian and (probably) Azerbaijani experts.
In addition, the russian VChK-OGPU Telegram channel wrote that several Pantsirs had just been installed in Chechnya, which repelled the morning drone attack. Around the same time, an explosion occurred on board the Azerbaijan Airlines plane, which was reported by passengers who managed to survive.
