Due to the lack of engines produced by the Ukrainian plant Zorya-Mashproekt, russia was forced to sell a series of unfinished modern frigates to India.
Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, said this during a telethon, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"The thing is that the Russian Federation laid down a series of frigates even before 2014. These are the latest frigates, they already have universal launch shafts, that is, they already understood that Kalibrs are yesterday's day, they are trying to switch to new models of missile weapons. But in 2014, sanctions were imposed against the Russian Federation, primarily from our side. The engines for these frigates were made by the Zorya-Mashproekt plant in Mykolaiv. And without them, as it turned out, it is impossible to build Russian ships. Moreover, they tried to restore this production on their territory, and even five years later, in 2019, they presented supposedly established production, but this turned out to be just as fake, even despite the fact that they brought in some specialists from Ukraine. This production is unique, and they were unable to establish it in their own country during this period. And because of this, they were forced to abandon the entire series of frigates and sell them to India without engines. And only then did India purchase these engines separately," Pletenchuk said.
The spokesman also noted that the russian shipbuilding industry looks quite weak.
"This is an echo of the 90s, when they had a serious pause. Most of the projects that are serial are also from the 90s. Traditionally, the fleet of production equipment is outdated, traditionally lagging behind in the implementation of state orders. They laid a lot of groundwork, including in the Black Sea. They planned to build a series of landing ships in Crimea, but now it is impossible," Pletenchuk added.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in April 2022, the Ukrainian military damaged the russian frigate Admiral Essen.
The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv has taken into custody the president of the largest manufacturer of aircraft engines and gas turbine units, Motor Sich, Viacheslav Bohuslaiev, who is suspected of collaborating with russia during the war.
The Security Service of Ukraine has published audio recordings of telephone conversations between the president of Motor Sich, Bohuslaiev, which confirm his collaboration with the aggressor country.
Even after russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Bohuslaiev, who had previously been repeatedly elected as a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Party of Regions, continued to supply the russian federation with engines and other spare parts for attack helicopters.
