300 Ukrainians sign up for Ukrainian Legion in Poland - Defense Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz reported that 300 people volunteered to join the Ukrainian Legion. The number of applicants was not enough to start training on September 1.

His words were quoted by Polska Agencija Prasova on Friday, October 4.

Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that the recruitment of Ukrainian volunteers is only now starting, although Poland was ready to start training on September 1. According to him, then there were not enough applicants, but now Ukraine has taken measures to inform and promote this process, so the country is counting on results.

"When asked how many would like to join the Ukrainian Legion, he answered: "I once heard about the target number of one brigade, but so far it is much smaller, I heard about 300 people," said the head of the Polish Ministry of Defense.

Deputy Minister Pavel Zalevsky added that this week the Ukrainian consulate in Lublin started recruiting Ukrainian volunteers: "If the first group of several hundred volunteers is formed, we will immediately train them," Zalevsky said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in July 2024, Ukraine and Poland signed a security agreement.

The security agreement with Poland provides for the training of the Ukrainian Legion of Ukrainians on the territory of that country.

On October 3, the Minister of Defense of Poland Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that the creation of the Ukrainian Legion is in great question due to the small number of volunteers.
