Trypilska TPP subject to restoration, but without sufficient air defense systems - "it's a futile business" - Centrenergo

The Trypilska thermal power plant (Ukrainka, Kyiv Region) is subject to restoration and has proposals for the provision of equipment from European countries, however, in view of the constant danger of russian attacks, the restoration of the TPP without providing Ukraine with air defense systems is a "futile business".

Andrii Hota, chairman of the supervisory board of Centrenergo, told about this on the air of the Briefing program of the Ukrainian service of the Voice of America, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to him, it was possible to shoot down part of the supersonic ballistic missiles flying in the direction of the station, but due to the lack of missiles for Ukrainian air defense systems, part of the russian missiles still reached the target and destroyed the TPP.

Because of this, according to Hota, for the sustainability of the Ukrainian energy industry, it is primarily important to ensure Ukrainian air defense.

"Anything subject to restoration, last summer we had a similar picture when these units were not repaired and at some stations did not work at all. That is, we can restore everything. We have a very good team, a very motivated team for restoration. Of course, without international partners it is almost impossible to do that, so we already have certain promises to provide us with transformers, turbines, and other equipment from European countries, but again, without a sufficient number of missiles for air defense, it will be, to put it mildly, a futile business," he said.

Trypilska TPP provided electricity to almost 3 million consumers and was the largest supplier of electricity in the Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Cherkasy Regions.

"So far, given the favorable weather, electricity consumers still not yet experience significant power outages, but the outages may begin closer to summer. It is difficult to even imagine what will happen in winter, because winter is the most difficult period," Hota said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on April 11, russian invaders attacked critical energy infrastructure facilities in four regions.

At the same time, the destruction of the Trypilska TPP as a result of a massive missile attack led to the destruction of the entire generation of Centrenergo.
