President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, possible ways to increase the supply of artillery ammunition to Ukraine and the importance of extending trade preferences for Ukraine.
Zelenskyy announced this on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"On the eve of the meeting of the European Council, I had a telephone conversation with the President of the European Union, Charles Michel. First of all, we discussed further steps on the way to the actual start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU, as well as further comprehensive support of Ukraine from the EU. I thanked Charles for yesterday's approval by the EU Council of the decision to create within the framework of the European Peace Fund, a special aid fund for Ukraine, in the amount of EUR 5 billion. In addition, we considered possible ways to increase the supply of artillery ammunition to Ukraine," he said.
Zelenskyy also noted that they discussed the importance of extending the autonomous trade preferences for Ukraine for another year. He emphasized that the continuation of the trade liberalization regime with the EU is a critical factor in supporting the Ukrainian economy during the war.
In addition, the President's Office reported that Zelenskyy and Michel exchanged expectations from the anniversary, 25th Ukraine-European Union Summit, which will be held in the near future.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in February, Zelenskyy announced that the European Union had transferred 30% of the promised 1 million shells to Ukraine.
Ukraine expects to receive EUR 6 billion from the EU in March-April from the approved four-year program for Ukraine - Ukraine Facility - for EUR 50 billion.
