Occupiers shoot Ukrainian prisoner of war in Donetsk Region

Law enforcement authorities have launched a pretrial investigation into the shooting of a captured Ukrainian soldier by russian occupation forces in the Donetsk Region. This is stated in a report from the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the report, on July 3 at 2:42 p.m., near the village of Yalta in the Komar rural community, soldiers of the aggressor country, the russian federation, took a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine prisoner. After interrogation, one of the occupiers ordered the execution of the Ukrainian defender, and another shot him with a firearm.

It is noted that, under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched in criminal proceedings regarding the commission of a war crime resulting in the death of a person (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

“Urgent investigative (search) measures are currently being carried out to establish all the circumstances of the incident and identify the Russian military personnel involved in committing this crime, law enforcement officials said.

The prosecutor’s office also emphasized that the killing of prisoners of war constitutes a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a serious international crime.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, today, July 24, russian occupation forces launched ballistic missile strikes on a military training ground in the Kyiv Region, where an arms exhibition was taking place at the time.

Ten people were killed and about 100 others were wounded as a result of this missile strike by the aggressor country, russia. A criminal investigation has been opened to determine who made the decision to hold the event during the war and how that decision was made.
