On the night of July 19, russian forces carried out one of the most massive ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv, killing one person and wounding 16 others. For Ukraine, protection against ballistic missiles remains a constant priority.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reported this.
"Last night, Russia carried out one of the most massive ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv. The enemy fired more than 40 missiles of various types, most of them at the capital, as well as 120 attack drones. As of now, one person is known to have been killed in Kyiv and the surrounding region, and another 16 were injured. My condolences go out to all the families and loved ones,” the statement reads.
The President added that all those affected are receiving the necessary medical care, and cleanup efforts from the shelling were continuing at three locations — with nearly 600 rescue workers deployed. Relevant services are also working in the Odesa Region.
According to Zelenskyy, over the past week, russia has used the following against Ukraine:
- about 1,450 attack drones,
- more than 1,640 guided aerial bombs,
- 99 missiles of various types.
“Protection against ballistic threats is our constant and top priority right now. Interceptors are needed every day, and I am grateful to everyone who takes our agreements seriously and ensures the supply of anti-ballistic systems. These shipments are literally saving lives during every massive Russian attack,” he emphasized.
The President underscored the importance of maintaining pressure on russia and added that delays in making new decisions give moscow the opportunity not only to plan new attacks but also to figure out how to avoid new sanctions.
It should be noted that rescue workers reported that all fires in Kyiv caused by the russian attack have already been extinguished. Firefighters are currently dismantling and dousing structures in the Shevchenkivskyi and Solomianskyi Districts at the sites where non-residential buildings were damaged.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, russian forces launched 41 missiles and 125 drones at Ukraine throughout the evening and night. The main target of the nighttime attack was Kyiv. Air defense forces shot down a total of 126 targets. A total of 23 missiles and 10 attack drones struck 20 locations.
In Kyiv, strikes and fires were reported in five districts. Specifically, residential buildings, an office building, a dormitory, non-residential buildings, and vehicles were damaged. The enemy killed one person, and 13 others were injured.
In Kyiv, the Lukianivska subway station is temporarily closed due to damage caused by russian shelling on the night of July 19.
In addition, in the Zaporizhzhia Region, an enemy drone struck a passenger train. An evacuation was announced in advance, and the train conductor sustained minor injuries. People will be transported to Zaporizhzhia by bus.
