Russians fired 41 missiles at Ukraine overnight. How did air defense system perform?

Throughout the evening and night, russian forces launched 41 missiles and 125 drones at Ukraine. The main target of the nighttime attack was Kyiv. Air defense forces shot down a total of 126 targets. Twenty-three missiles and 10 attack drones were confirmed to have struck 20 locations.

It was reported by the Ukrainian Air Forces.

Specifically, starting at 6:00 p.m. and continuing throughout the night of July 19, the enemy launched a massive combined strike against Ukraine using attack drones and various types of air- and ground-launched missiles. The main target of the strike was Kyiv.

In total, the Air Forces' electronic warfare units detected 166 air attack weapons — 41 missiles and 125 UAVs of various types:

  • 25 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles (launch areas: Bryansk and Kursk Oblasts, russian federation);
  • 3 Oniks anti-ship missiles (launch areas: the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea);
  • 3 Kh-59/69 guided air-to-ground missiles (launch areas – airspace over the Black Sea);
  • 125 Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas-type strike UAVs, Parodiya-type decoy drones, and Banderole-type loitering munitions (from the following directions: Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo – russian federation; Hvardiiske – temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea).

As of 8:30 a.m., air defense forces had shot down or neutralized 126 targets—18 missiles and 108 drones of various types:

  • 17 Iskander-M/Zircon/S-400 missiles;
  • 1 Kh-59/69 guided air-to-ground missile;
  • 108 enemy UAVs of various types.

"According to preliminary information, as of 8:30 a.m., 23 missiles and 10 attack UAVs were recorded hitting 20 locations, as well as the fall of downed (debris) at 18 locations,” the Air Forces reported.

At the same time, as of this morning, the attack is ongoing — several enemy UAVs have been detected in the airspace. The agency urged the public to follow safety guidelines.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the night of July 19, russian troops shelled Kyiv, resulting in strikes and fires in five districts of the city. Specifically, residential buildings, an office building, a dormitory, non-residential buildings, and vehicles were damaged. The enemy killed one person, and another 13 were injured.
