The government will present military reform in the coming weeks, which, in particular, will provide for an increase in the financial support of the military and terms of service.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said this during the hour of questions to the government in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"The Ministry of Defense is currently preparing a reform that will provide for an increase in additional payments for military personnel. This is a lot of money. We are now calculating how we can balance the budget in order to ensure the continuity of these payments both this year and in the following periods. These reforms, these changes will also provide for the definition of more specific terms of service. All this is on the side of the Ministry of Defense... In the coming weeks, we are ready to come out with this reform and implement it," she said.
Svyrydenko also noted that the amendments to the state budget for 2026 recently approved by the Verkhovna Rada provide for additional funds for defense - over UAH 1.5 trillion.
As Ukrainian News Agency reported, earlier, members of the Verkhovna Rada reported that Svyrydenko, during a conciliation council with the participation of faction leaders, promised to submit a military reform to parliament for approval in July, which, in particular, provides for an increase in monetary support and proposals for terms of service.
According to Yaroslav Zhelezniak, MP from the Holos faction, during a meeting with factions on financing an increase in military salaries, Svyrydenko reported that the army's funding deficit is currently UAH 150 billion, and an additional UAH 120 billion are needed to carry out the announced reform of military pay.
On May 1, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the start of the army reform, which, in particular, provides for the possibility of dismissing mobilized personnel from service this year.
At the same time, Zelenskyy said that the reform will start in June, and the first results should be seen in June, in particular in the area of financial support for soldiers, sergeants, and commanders of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
