NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has named four countries that currently oppose Ukraine's rapid accession to the Alliance. It was reported by Suspilne.
Speaking at the Ronald Reagan Institute in the United States, he stated that the issue of membership is unlikely to be resolved in the near future.
According to the Secretary General, despite the "irreversible path" of Ukraine to the bloc, which was fixed at the 2024 summit, the process is being slowed down by Germany, Slovakia, Hungary and the United States. Rutte noted that the issue of accession is not currently on the agenda. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of Ukraine's military experience, which the Alliance is already integrating into its own defense plans, particularly in the field of unmanned systems.
"You were the masters. Zelenskyy wisely traveled to the Middle East to help Middle Eastern gulf countries now with dealing with the drone threat from Iran,"the NATO Secretary General emphasized, noting Ukraine's success in developing technologies to counter UAVs.
Now the Alliance is focused on practical cooperation, while the political decision on enlargement remains blocked due to the position of some key partners.
