The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated UAH 1.6 billion to keep power units and the shelter at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant safe. It was announced by the Ministry of Energy, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"The government has allocated more than UAH 1.6 billion of budget funds to carry out work to secure the confidentiality of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. These funds will be used, among other things, to overcome the consequences of the Russian terrorist attack on the station's shelter," the statement said.

The Ministry notes that despite the difficult wartime conditions, Ukraine will continue to work to maintain the safe condition of the three ChNPP power units, the spent nuclear fuel storage facility and radioactive waste storage facilities.

It is emphasized that the elimination of global risks is possible only if the russian federation stops its attacks on Ukrainian nuclear facilities.

According to Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 237 of February 25, it is envisaged to allocate:

UAH 790 million to maintain ChNPP units, spent fuel storage facility (ISF-1) and radioactive waste storage facilities in a safe condition;

UAH 285.1 million - for decommissioning and partial dismantling of individual systems and elements of the units;

UAH 542.3 million - for implementing organizational and technical measures for the management, operation, maintenance, repair of systems that will operate in the future, and ensuring safety control.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in December 2025, the IAEA Nuclear Energy Commission published a detailed report on the damage to the Chornobyl NPP as a result of drone strikes in February this year, according to which the Shelter has lost its basic safety functions due to the damage and urgent repairs are needed.

In February 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers allocated UAH 1.5 billion to maintain the safe condition of the Chornobyl NPP shelter.

In February 2025, a russian attack drone with an explosive warhead hit the shelter, which covers the destroyed power unit No. 4 at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, damaging the integrity of the outer shell of the New Safe Confinement (NSC) and equipment in the crane maintenance garage.
