The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated UAH 1.5 billion to support the safe condition of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant shelter.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"Today, the focus of our attention is on the energy sector, which is systematically attacked by the enemy. Russia has once again resorted to terrorism against nuclear facilities. The drone attack on the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant shelter is an attempt to intimidate Ukraine, Europe and the world. Currently, there is no radiation threat, work is underway to eliminate the consequences of the attack. Today, the Government is directing more than UAH 1.5 billion to support the safe condition of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant shelter. We are increasing funding by UAH 139 million compared to 2024," he said.
Shmyhal also noted that the government will attract a EUR 400 million loan from the European Investment Bank for energy-efficient reconstruction.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the night of February 14, a russian strike drone with a high-explosive warhead hit the shelter covering the destroyed power unit No. 4 at the Chornobyl NPP.
As a result of the russian drone strike on the New Safe Confinement (NSC) over the destroyed power unit of the Chornobyl NPP, the integrity of the outer shell of the NSC and the equipment in the crane maintenance garage were damaged.
On February 18, the elimination of the consequences of the russian UAV strike on the Shelter facility continues, work is underway to partially open the structures and extinguish 2 smoldering areas of the roof insulation.
