On the day of the fourth anniversary of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal and international partners visited the Darnytska CHPP in Kyiv. First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal reported this on his Facebook page, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
Shmyhal also said that over the past four years, russia has launched 13 missile and drone attacks against the Darnytska Combined Heat and Power Plant, 9 of which were launched over the past six months.
In January, due to another attack, the plant stopped producing electricity, and in early February, 5 ballistic missiles hit here - and heat production stopped.
More than 1,100 apartment buildings, 118 schools and kindergartens, and 18 hospitals were left without heating.
Shmyhal noted that more than 40 countries and organizations are supporting the Ukrainian energy sector this winter.
In 2025, about EUR 600 million were mobilized through the Energy Support Fund.
During the full-scale war, Ukraine received more than 2000 humanitarian goods for the energy sector.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 19, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that based on the experience of this winter, the government is preparing a decision on rebuilding and updating the energy supply of communities.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that the Darnytska CHPP was critically damaged during the russian attack on February 3, and will take at least two months to restore.
At the same time, the mayor provided a list of 1,126 houses in the Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi Districts that cannot be supplied with heat until the damaged Darnytska CHPP is restored.
Klitschko also said that it is impossible to replace the centralized heating system in Kyiv with local heat sources or cogeneration units.
