It is impossible to replace centralized heating system of Kyiv with heat supply from local heat sources or cogeneration plants - Klitschko

It is impossible to replace the centralized heating system of Kyiv with heat supply from local heat sources or cogeneration plants.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In particular, Klitschko reported that he had convened a council on energy security and sustainability of Kyiv, which included specialists in the field of energy and housing and utilities, as well as scientists and experts.

"We discussed both the prospects for restoring damaged critical infrastructure facilities of the city and the possibility of introducing alternative capacities in individual neighborhoods. Since it is impossible to completely replace the centralized heating system of the capital (the largest in Europe and once built for large CHPPs) with heat supply from local heat sources or cogeneration plants. All experts and specialists emphasized this," he said.

At the same time, Klitschko noted that the direction of cogeneration development is important - for additional electricity generation for critical infrastructure and other city needs, alternative technologies should be introduced in parallel with the modernization and protection of the centralized heating system.

The council also discussed preparations for the next heating season.

It was agreed to involve specialized scientific institutes in the operational development of a roadmap for stabilizing the critical energy situation in the capital under martial law and massive enemy attacks and a strategic plan for the future energy supply and heat supply of the capital, in particular, proposals will be formulated on what assistance is needed from the state.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on February 10, Klitschko reported that almost 1,400 residential buildings in Kyiv are without heat supply.

Earlier, Klitschko said that the Darnytsia CHPP received critical damage during the russian attack on February 3, and its restoration will take at least two months.

At the same time, the mayor provided a list of 1,126 houses in the Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts, which cannot be supplied with heat until the damaged Darnytsia CHPP is restored.
