Ukraine and russia have made significant progress at the talks in Geneva, Switzerland, and agreed to continue working on the next round of negotiations. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated this at a briefing on Wednesday, February 18.
Leavitt emphasized that the US President continues to seek an end to the war in Ukraine.
"I think the president would respond to that by saying he does not think it's fair that thousands of Ukrainians are losing their lives and Russians too in this deadly war. And that's why the president and his team have committed a tremendous amount of time and energy in bringing this war that is very far away from the United States of America. But nevertheless, this is a president of peace and so he's committed a tremendous amount of time and energy to bringing," Leavitt emphasized.
According to her, there will be another round of talks in the future, but russia and Ukraine have made significant progress in Geneva. The delegations are going to inform their leaders and continue working together on a peace agreement, Levitt said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 18, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov said that another round of talks with the delegations of the United States and the aggressor country russia was difficult, but important.
On February 18, US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff announced that tangible progress had been made after the first day of trilateral talks.
