US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff reported significant progress after the first day of trilateral talks in Geneva between Ukraine, the United States and russia. He wrote about this on the social network X.

According to Steve Witkoff, on February 17, on the instructions of US President Donald Trump, the American side moderated the third round of talks between Ukraine and russia. He also thanked the Swiss side for organizing the meeting and hospitality.

Commenting on the results of the first day of talks, Steve Witkoff stressed that Donald Trump's efforts to bring the parties to the conflict closer have already yielded noticeable results.

"President Trump's success in bringing the two sides of this war closer has led to significant progress, and we are proud to be working under his leadership to stop the killing in this horrific conflict. Both sides have agreed to brief their leaders and continue working on an agreement," Steve Witkoff wrote.

As a reminder, the third round of talks on ending the war in Ukraine is taking place in Geneva on February 17-18. The Ukrainian authorities announced the day before that the meeting was planned to discuss the mechanism for the monitoring mission in the event of a ceasefire, as well as raise the issue of a possible energy truce.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, a new round of talks between Ukraine and the russian federation, mediated by the United States, began in Geneva on February 17. A member of the Ukrainian delegation, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, said that the parties intend to discuss security and humanitarian issues.
