Umerov on peace talks: there is progress, next stage is to achieve agreement in order to submit decision for consideration by Presidents

The peace talks in the Ukraine-US-RF format were intense and substantive, there is progress, the next stage is to achieve agreement in order to submit a decision for consideration by the Presidents. This was announced by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Rustem Umerov on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Today, another round of trilateral talks in the Ukraine-US-RF format took place. The work was intensive and substantive. We thank the American partners for the fact that the process does not stop and must continue," he said.

Umerov said that the delegations worked out the political and military blocs, discussed security parameters and mechanisms for implementing possible solutions, some issues were clarified, and additional coordination is ongoing in some areas.

"We are focused on working out the key provisions necessary to finalize the process. This is a complex work that requires the agreement of all parties and time. There is progress, but so far without details. The next stage is to achieve the necessary level of coordination in order to submit the developed decisions for consideration by the presidents. Our task is to prepare a real, not a formal, basis for this," he said.

Umerov stressed that Ukraine is working constructively, the ultimate goal is unchanged - a just and sustainable peace.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the next round of negotiations in the trilateral format - Ukraine, the United States, russia began on February 17 in Geneva (Switzerland), with security and humanitarian issues on the agenda.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy howled that the aggressor country of russia is trying to drag out the negotiations, which could already have reached the final stage.

Zelenskyy wants to hold direct talks with russian leader vladimir putin to find a way out of the impasse on the issue of territories. He has already instructed his team to begin organizing a meeting at the leadership level, with Geneva as the venue.
