The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the police are establishing the whereabouts of former SSU head Ivan Bakanov, but cannot yet establish them.

This is evidenced by the response of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to the address of Member of Parliament Oleksii Honcharenko, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Police are looking for the SSU ex-chief Bakanov to ensure his presence at the February 3 meeting of the provisional investigatory commission in the Verkhovna Rada.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko has reported this at the request of Honcharenko.

The process of establishing Bakanov's whereabouts is ongoing.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, according to media reports, NABU opened a case against the top management of the SSU under Bakanov and Naumov. In particular, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine registered a criminal proceeding on the facts of alleged receipt of undue advantage by former high-ranking officials of the Security Service of Ukraine. The investigation was based on public statements made by Ukrainian businessman Serhii Vahanian in the media.

The investigation is carried out under Part 4 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an undue advantage by an official in a particularly large amount or by an organized group, as well as under Part 4 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - offer, promise or provision of an undue advantage to an official who holds a particularly responsible position for committing or failing to commit acts using his or her official position.

As a reminder, the former head of the SSU's Main Department of Internal Security, Andrii Naumov, is suspected of high treason: according to the State Bureau of Investigation, he could have passed classified information to russian special services, in particular regarding the safety of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. A few hours before the full-scale invasion of russia, Naumov left Ukraine, and on June 7, 2022, he was detained on the border of Serbia and North Macedonia. In October 2023, Serbia refused to extradite him to Ukraine, and in early December of the same year, Naumov was released from custody with a ban on leaving the country.

Naumov had been working at the SSU since 2019 after Ivan Bakanov was appointed head of the service and headed the internal security department. Bakanov himself was removed from office in July 2022; the SBI denies his involvement in any criminal proceedings, and the results of the internal investigation remain unknown.
